Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is a direct cremation
Direct cremation is a simple, dignified cremation without a funeral service or mourners present. Your loved one is cared for respectfully, and the cremation takes place at a local crematorium at an unattended time.
Is direct cremation still a respectful option
Yes. Every person in my care is treated with the same dignity, professionalism and attention, regardless of the type of funeral chosen.
Why do families choose direct cremation
Many families prefer a private, uncomplicated farewell. Others choose it because they want to hold a separate memorial or celebration of life later, or because they want a more affordable option without compromising on care.
Can we still have a service or gathering afterwards
Absolutely. You can arrange a memorial, gathering or celebration of life at any time. If you’d like guidance, I’m always happy to help you plan something personal and meaningful.
Can we visit the Chapel of Rest
A visit to the Chapel of Rest is not included within the Direct Cremation package, as this option is designed to be simple and unattended.
However, if you would like to spend time with your loved one before the cremation, this can be arranged for an additional fee of £100.
If Chapel visits are important to you, you may also wish to consider the Simple Funeral Service or Traditional Funeral Service, both of which include full care presentation and private Chapel visits as standard.
Can we choose the date and time of the cremation
No. Direct cremation takes place at an unattended time chosen by the crematorium.
Where will the cremation take place
Usually at Shay Grange Crematorium (Heaton) or Oakworth Crematorium (Keighley), depending on availability.
What happens to the ashes afterwards
You can choose either:
- Ashes scattered in the crematorium grounds, or
- Ashes collected from our private chapel
Is transport included
Yes. Your loved one is brought into my care within a 20‑mile radius of the Bingley Chapel of Rest, and transported to the crematorium in a suitable vehicle.
Are there any hidden costs
No. The only additional charge would be for an outsized coffin if required. Everything else is explained clearly in advance.
How much does direct cremation cost
The Humble Direct Cremation costs £950 plus the cremation fee of £350, giving a total from £1,300.
Do we need to pay in advance
Yes. Package costs must be settled in full within 48 hours of making arrangements. A written estimate is always provided.
